Episode #31: (Post on Sunday) Giving Away Our Freedom – The LKN Faith Podcast
Est. Reading Time:
I live in America, known as the Land of the Free. What does this American right give me? This American right of being free allows my own individuality and my own freedom to think any way I want, to act any way I want, and to live any way I want. Freedom from other men’s thoughts, wishes, and lifestyles is a right given to me as an American citizen.
This similar freedom is given to us as Christians as well. While we are bound by law, as Americans are, we are then free to not be bound by the opinions and choices of others. We do not have to keep to Jewish traditions anymore. We can keep our own traditions that others might be uncomfortable with. As long as we are staying inside God’s law, then we can have our own individuality and personality. We have freedom because we are God’s children, and not the children of some other man on earth.
Now, while our freedom in Christ is not bound by other men’s opinion, what God wants us to do with that freedom is very contrary to what America wants us to do with our freedom.
“For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I may win more.” (1 Corinthians 9:19 NASB)

Are we bound by men? Not at all. But God wants us to take our freedom and decide for ourselves that we are going to make ourselves a slave of others. Remember, this is talking about the strong Christian allowing themselves to adapt to either a weak Christian or someone who is not a Christian at all, again keeping inside God’s law.
So, if you see yourself as a strong Christian (and really, you should) then that means that we need to be able to say, “I am mine no more.” Our freedom that we are given should be used to reach other people, not to say, “This is the way I want it because I can.”
It’s tough, but as Christians let us give away our freedom.
